Charitable funds that can clear fuel debt

There are various charitable funds which accept applications from domestic customers and which make grants to clear or reduce fuel debt.

Scottish Power Hardship Fund

This charitable fund offers assistance to current domestic customers of Scottish Power, as well as to ex-customers with a debt on a former account. Visit the SED website for more information.

British Gas Energy Trust

This charitable fund can offer assistance to current and former domestic customers of British Gas or Scottish Gas, and to current and former customers of other suppliers. It can also provide electrical appliances (cookers, fridges or washing machines) to vulnerable customers in need.

e.on Energy Fund

This fund aims to assist current and former domestic e.on customers.

As well as clearing debts, this fund can make payment in full or part to cover the cost of installing cavity wall insulation or loft insulation, make payment in full or part to cover the cost of repairing or installing heating systems and make payment in full or in part for household appliances.

EDF Energy Trust

This fund aims to assist current and former domestic customers of EDF Energy. It can also provide electrical appliances (cookers, fridges or washing machines) to vulnerable customers in need.

npower Energy Fund

This is an independent trust which can help N Power customers who are struggling to pay domestic energy debts. It can also provide electrical appliances (cookers, fridges or washing machines) to vulnerable customers in need.

You can apply to the Fund via the npower website.

SSE Priority Assistance Fund

This fund can help current and former customers of Scottish Hydro (and other suppliers under the parent company SSE) with grants to clear fuel debts.

The fund is currently closed but it should reopen in summer 2017. For more information please contact the SSE Priority Assistance Team on 0800 096 6192.
